Assignment 5: Working with Found Objects

Image
The directions given for this project was to use found objects that opposed each other and find a relationship between them. I chose a screwdriver and a flower. I began this project thinking about the objects that I had already in my possession; I thought of the screw driver I had in my car and the abundance of flowers in nature. I was having trouble dissecting the two objects and figuring how their oppositions of each other could work in my favor until I was instructed to separate my feelings. With the flower my initial thoughts were that it was pretty and not waiting for anyone’s approval to grow. Taking the individual thoughts and combining them crea...

Assignment 3 and 4: Molds and Mulitples

The first part of this project was to recreate a 3D object from life using clay which played into the second part of this project that required a mold to be made of the object in order to make multiples of it. I chose a crystal prism to recreate because of the complexity of the creation within a seemingly simple shape. It proved challenging to get every side and groove to look uniform. Despite my struggles with making the clay rendering perfect (which it wasn’t in the end), the mold that came out of it was exactly what I imagined. After two molds were made out of 100% silicone caulk, I played around with what to make the molds out of. In the first attempt I used air dry clay but, after it was dry, I realized I used too much clay and was having trouble carving it down into the shape I wanted. In the second attempt, I used liquid plaster that was poured into the mold. This was a much more successful attempt because after it was dry I could sand down the edges to make it a better re...
