Group Project Sculpture 2

Image
Coming to an agreement on what to do as a group that we could all personalize on our own was the hardest part of this project. We decided to collectively build a house; we each got a room in the house that we could decorate with our own specialities like used parts, wood, foam, etc. The rooms we chose were attic, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and a bedroom. We chose a theme for the house by randomly picking out words from a hat. The words we landed on were busted, alien, whimsical, reptile people, shiny, gloom, doom, etc. I would say for a group project this was definitely one of the better ones that I have been assigned because we all were able to put our own spin on it. My room was really reminiscent of the collection of books I have read in the past year with the wings and the blood spatter. I wish I could have devoted more time into this piece with tiny details and the construction.

Tension Sculpture

Image
A mental or emotional strain on the mind that is caused by stress that is how Tension is described. The idea for this project came to me in a dream. The idea was a chair or an object that had a cage surrounding a light bulb. I correlated this structural idea with tension regarding the the untapped potential that people cage inside themselves because of fear or motivation. With the chair being black and dark with rigid, harsh structure shows the tension between the person and the potential your sitting on and hiding. The meaning behind this sculpture is really relevant amongst my peers and age range. We are at this pivotal age where we have to decide if we want to tap into this passion/potential or set it aside.   I created this chair with a bunch of pieces of scrap wood and a light bulb with a cord attachment. I wish I could make this chair look more like a chair with a cushion but it was not realistic for me to do finically.

Labor and Body Sculpture

Labor and Body, two very similar words in the way that one helps another but for this project they came out in different ways. Labor was present in this project because of how much work I personally devoted to this project. A labor of love is what I reminded myself every time I wanted to give up on this project. This project was created off of another project that I made last semester. It was a 4 foot by 2 foot wooden wing that had carved wings and feathers in it. Despite putting a lot of effort into that first wing, it had more 2D than 3D qualities which motivated me to create a 3D wing. I started this project by using the first wing as a reference by how many feathers I needed. I cut out each individual feather from different wood types, so they are each unique in their own way with their grain and size. I ended up with 187 individual feathers, ranging from small to lar...
